Midland HR & Payroll Solutions has launched Release 5.5 of its market-leading software, Trent.

The new release extends self-service functionality, giving employees and line managers the benefit of information at their fingertips. It also offers a comprehensive suite of analytical reports, and incorporates the facility to exchange information with the Inland Revenue in order to meet the government directives on EDI and the Internet.

Timesheets and expenses input with full manager authorisation are now available in self-service, and can be individually tailored to meet the various requirements of different types of employee within an organisation.

Lawrence Knowles, Managing Director at MidlandHR, said: "Processing of timesheets and expenses has always been a time-consuming, error-ridden chore. This release streamlines that process, making it faster, and eliminates the paper chase. HR & payroll professionals will be able to save time and become more strategic by using the release's analytical suite of reports."

The new reports provide data for leaver analysis, salary analysis, and costing, and can be used for the creation of Key Performance Indicators, including the Best Value Performance Indicators produced by local authorities. A particularly exciting report for line managers is Projection of Salary Costs, which will enable them to model staffing costs depending on labour turnover and staff movements.

Trent has also recently been accredited to exchange information with the Inland Revenue electronically, and Release 5.5 is the first to incorporate this facility. This direct electronic link with the tax office will make Trent even more versatile for businesses and organisations.

Unlike many other systems, Trent offers users a choice of both forms of electronic information exchange: via the Internet or EDI, including the P14 year-end submission, P45 forms for both starters and leavers, and the P46 form used for new starters without P45s.

Lawrence Knowles concludes: "This release benefits organisations in three major areas: it empowers line managers and employees via self-service, enables HR and payroll to become more strategic using analytics, and meets the Government initiative for EDI and the Internet."
