Recruitment Process Outsourcing, HR, Supply Chains

Two-thirds of firms who re-engineered supply chains have not re-engineered human resources supply chains

A longitudinal analysis of business process concerns and priorities among the Fortune 500 found that 67% of the firms that invested in supply chain process have not made similar investments in recruiting process redesign. The study, conducted by StraightSource, a Dallas, TX recruitment outsourcing firm, looked at publicly available records and interviewed hundreds of HR professionals to discover that processes for sourcing raw and component materials are more sophisticated than processes for sourcing human resources.

“ It’s ironic that companies will invest heavily to streamline their supply chains and master logistics, transportation and distribution,” observed Brandt Hamby, executive vice president, business development. “But talk to most senior executives, and they’ll tell you that they have barely scratched the surface when it comes to securing a streamlined process for efficiently and effectively supplying talent to fuel their organizations.”

While most enterprises realize the need for on-going recruiting and staff management, only one-third of the largest firms have put standard, consistent recruiting processes in place. Compare that to an average investment of $3.3 million on supply chain initiatives, which companies with more than 1,000 employees are reported to spend, according to Baseline Magazine.

“In a world where process is highly regarded, the lack of attention to recruiting – the function that provides the brainpower, the energy and the driving force within any enterprise seems to get short shrift, “ Mr. Hamby noted.

Hamby closed by saying that finding the right talent in competitive markets with the prospect of the Baby Boomers retiring is not anything leading corporations want to leave to chance. And yet in spite of continuous rhetoric about the importance of people, relatively few companies are putting their money where their mouths are.”
